»…will be present. A PopUp for Society« essentially brings two thoughts together:
Firstly, to offer artists, authors, scientists, creative people, … who are at the beginning of their careers a space in which they can work downtown. Secondly, to give the citizens of the city of Potsdam simple and unglamorous access to what these people are currently dealing with.
Potsdam is actually a small city, which had just 140,000 inhabitants before reunification, is now a boomtown - and a somewhat elite area. Over 180,000 inhabitants, castles and palaces, celebrities and galleries that are more like museums - because the city is a popular tourist destination and local recreation area for Berliners. Space is scarce and discussions about issues that concern society take place in »salons«, not on the street.
With »…will be present. A PopUp for Society« we want to address these two problems and create space and visibility for them.
Depending on who or which topic is present, the room bears this name and, as a pop-up, invites all citizens (or tourists...) to enter into a dialogue. Or just to visit an interesting lecture or a good exhibition without admission. And just as the room is open to all visitors, it is also open to all professions and all topics. Where an artist was present yesterday, climate can be present tomorrow and an unconditional basic income a month later.
